Frequently Asked Questions
What is the core gauge of the 9 ga. extruded vinyl coated wire?
The 9 ga. extruded vinyl wire on signetfence.com has a 12 ½ ga. galvanized core.
What is the vinyl coating made of?
The vinyl coating is PVC, or Polyvinyl Chloride, a thermoplastic made of chlorine and carbon. It is a durable, fire resistant material.
What is the core gauge of the 8 ga. extruded and bonded vinyl coated wire?
The 8 ga. extruded and bonded vinyl wire has an 11 ga. galvanized core.
Will vinyl coated wire last longer than galvanized wire?
Most likely. The galvanized (zinc) coating will dissipate, albeit slowly, over time. The vinyl coating, as long as it is not damaged or cut, will protect the steel wire for a lifetime.
Can’t I just paint my galvanized chain link fence to get the same look?
You could probably paint your chain link fence and it would look good for a year or two; but, the paint would offer little protection against rust and when the paint started to chip or fade, you would have to paint it again to keep the fence looking good. Second, it isn’t very easy to paint an entire section of chain link fabric after it’s installed. If you try spray painting it, you’ll end up wasting a lot of paint and won’t be able to reach the recessed areas of the wire. If you try brushing it, the paint will likely drip everywhere and leave you with a mess.
Do you sell vinyl coated pipe and fittings?
Yes, you can find them in our chain link fitting section. If there is a part that you are unable to find, please contact our customer service department at (877) 403-3623 as we may have it or know where to find it.
