The LokkLatch® Round is a proven, professional grade gravity latch for round-post chain link gates. It ships with the External Access Kit, so you can open and lock/unlock the gate from the outside—great for driveways, side yards, and service entrances. Its forgiving install tolerance (up to about 2" gate gap) makes it a smart choice for both new builds and existing gates that need an upgrade.

Installation
Mount the latch body to the round post, align the striker on the round gate frame, and fine-tune using the built-in vertical/horizontal adjustment. Verify your gate gap (this latch is forgiving—up to about 2"). As with any gravity latch, ensure your hinges and gate frame are set square before final tightening. Need complementary parts? See our Chain Link Fittings.
Note: Locking the External Access Kit does not automatically lock the inside latch; each side locks independently.
Buying Guide
- Confirm sizes — Measure post OD (1-7/8"–2", 2-3/8", or 2-7/8") and gate frame OD (1-3/8" or 1-5/8").
- Gap & alignment — If your existing gate has a larger gap or sags, this latch’s adjustability helps; correct hinge/sag issues for best results.
- Security planning — Inside and outside lock separately; plan key access for the right users.
- Environment — Polymer + 316 SS are ideal for coastal/high-corrosion areas.
- Add a closer — For consistent self-closing, pair with a gate closer (sold separately).
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this latch fit my chain link gate?
- Yes—if your gate frame is 1-3/8" or 1-5/8" OD and your post is 1-7/8"–2", 2-3/8", or 2-7/8" OD. That covers most residential chain link gates.
- Can I lock and unlock the gate from the outside?
- Yes. The included External Access Kit lets you operate and lock/unlock the latch from the outside. The inside latch locks separately.
- Is this suitable for pool code applications?
- It’s a general-purpose latch. For pool-specific safety/code requirements in your area, choose a pool-rated latch and verify local codes.
- How much gate gap can it handle?
- Up to about 2" (≈50 mm), which is helpful on existing gates where spacing isn’t perfect.
- Will it rust?
- The polymer housing won’t rust, and the internal components are 316 marine-grade stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance.
- Do I need special tools to install it?
- No. Standard hand tools are typically sufficient. Mark, pre-drill, fasten, and then use the built-in adjustment to fine-tune alignment.
Comparison
- LokkLatch® Regular (flat-post) — For square/flat posts; similar look/features, but not sized for round chain link posts.
- Traditional fork latches — Lower cost, but not key-lockable and offer less adjustability/corrosion resistance.
- Pool-rated latches — If you must meet pool safety codes, consider a compliant, self-latching, key-lockable model designed for that purpose.
