3 Things to Do Before You Buy Aluminum Railing
1) Compare Apples to Apples - This is important when comparing different aluminum railing systems. Two railings that look alike could, in reality, be drastically different when you consider their specifications. The key things to look for are: how thick is the aluminum on the rails, pickets, and posts; how far apart are the pickets spaced; what is the actual length of the section; and what is the quality of the powder coat on the aluminum. For example, aluminum railing A might have rails that are .090 wall thickness, where railing B has 2" posts with .075 wall thickness; details that are hard to pick up with the naked eye, but are important to the overall performance of the railing.
2) Delivered Price - Always look at the delivered price of the railing (the total that comes out of your pocket to get the railing to your house) instead of the advertised price. Remember to factor in shipping charges, fees, and any applicable taxes.
