Product Description
Heavy Aluminum Rail End for Chain Link — 1-3/8″ & 1-5/8″ Top/Mid/Bottom Rail (Press-Fit Cup)
- Terminates Round Rails Cleanly — Cup-style fitting captures rail and bolts to a terminal, corner, or gate post
- Heavy-Duty Aluminum — Rust-proof, cast construction for long outdoor service
- Versatile Placement — Use for top rail, mid rail, or bottom/brace rail terminations
- Standard Post Hardware — Works with a brace band + carriage bolt on the post (sold separately)
- Installer-Friendly — Smooth cup accepts the rail easily; ear aligns with the band for a fast, square connection
Finish your chain link rails with a heavy aluminum rail end. The cup captures the round rail, while the ear bolts to a brace band on the terminal, corner, or gate post to create a rigid, professional termination. Choose 1-3/8″ or 1-5/8″ to match your rail size. Aluminum construction won’t rust, making it a great choice for coastal and high-moisture environments.
Why Choose This
- Corrosion resistant — Solid aluminum resists rust better than pressed steel alternatives
- Strong & neat — Cup-and-ear design holds alignment and looks clean on finished runs
- Multi-position — One fitting style for top, mid, and bottom/brace rails
- Compatible — Uses common brace bands and carriage bolts stocked on most trucks

Installation
Slide the round rail fully into the cup. Place a brace band around the post at the rail height with the band’s square hole aligned to the rail end ear. Insert the carriage bolt from the band side through the ear, add the nut, and tighten until snug. Keep the rail level and the ear square while tightening. For bottom/brace rails, repeat at the lower elevation; for corners, set the band orientation to match the rail approach.
Buying Guide
- Match the rail: Order 1-3/8″ for 1-3/8″ O.D. rails or 1-5/8″ for 1-5/8″ O.D. rails.
- Match the post band: Choose brace bands sized to your post O.D. (e.g., 2-3/8″, 2-7/8″, 4″).
- Bolt selection: Use a carriage bolt diameter that fits your band (often 5/16″ or 3/8″); choose length to pass through the band, ear, and nut with a few threads showing.
- Alternatives: For pass-through on line posts, use a line rail (boulevard) clamp. For galvanized steel versions, see pressed-steel rail ends. For odd angles, consider a swivel rail end (if available).
Frequently Asked Questions
- What’s the difference between this and a pressed-steel rail end?
- Function is the same; the heavy aluminum version is rust-proof and typically thicker, while pressed steel is galvanized, heavier by feel, and more economical.
- Do I need any other fittings?
- Yes. You’ll need a brace band sized to your post and a carriage bolt & nut to connect the rail end ear to the band.
- Can I use this for bottom/brace rail?
- Yes—rail ends are commonly used to terminate bottom/brace rails at terminal and gate posts.
- Will aluminum match my galvanized framework?
- Yes. The natural silver aluminum blends well with galvanized components; you can also paint if a specific color is required.
- How many rail ends do I need?
- One per terminated rail. For corners with two rails meeting a single post, use two rail ends and two brace bands (or a combo band if preferred).
Comparison
Option | Strengths | Considerations | Best For |
---|---|---|---|
Heavy Aluminum Rail End (this item) | Rust-proof; clean finish; great for coastal/high-moisture sites | Slightly higher cost than pressed steel | Top/mid/bottom rail terminations on galvanized or aluminum frameworks |
Pressed-Steel Rail End | Economical; widely available | Galvanized steel can rust if coating is damaged | Budget-conscious projects, standard environments |
Line Rail (Boulevard) Clamp | Allows a rail to continue past a line post | Not a termination fitting | Mid/bottom rails running through line posts |
Swivel/Universal Rail End | Accommodates odd angles | More parts; not needed on square runs | Hillside or angled connections |

Super Item, Great Price, Prompt Delivery
Hello. I'm NOT a "fencer", but Signet had exactly what I needed -- four of the Rail End Caps. My application if NOT a "fencing" application. I'm in need of the Rail End Caps in order to attach a BOOM to a Wakeboard Tower on an inboard Water Skiing Boat. The Rail Ends will be used on BOTH ends of each of the two support brackets --- between the BOOM and the Tower. I am extremely pleased with the Rail Ends AND highly recommend SIGNET as a Supplier.
