- No Drop Rod Needed — Interlocking design aligns the gate leaves and eliminates the ground pin
- Fast 2-Bolt Install — Two pieces mount to the leading uprights; simple retrofit on residential or industrial frames
- Front Padlock Access — Convenient locking from the exterior side of the gate
- Built for Chain Link — Models fit the most common round gate frame sizes used on drive gates
Fence-Loc™ latches from Cargo Protectors are a proven upgrade for double chain link gates when you want a tamper-resistant, easy-to-use latch without a drop rod. Two interlocking halves mount to the opposing gate uprights; when closed, the latch captures and shields your padlock to resist bolt-cutter attacks. Installers like the generous 2″–6″ adjustment range that makes existing openings workable, and the two-bolt installation that keeps labor down on both residential and industrial jobs.
Why Choose This
- Security-first — Padlock is front-accessible and protected; design prevents “unbolt to open” tampering
- Installer-friendly — Two-bolt mount, wide adjustability, and no hole to drill for a drop rod
- Reliable in use — Interlocking bars align leaves and stand up to repeated cycles

Installation
Mount each latch half about 3½–4′ above grade on the opposing gate uprights so that both halves can rotate slightly on their bolts. Close the gates, rotate components until the bars slide together smoothly, then tighten bolts. Set final spacing within the 2″–6″ range and place your padlock in the protected pocket. Follow local security requirements and use an exterior-rated padlock.
Buying Guide
- Choose your model: Pick FL300 for 1-3/8″ residential frames; choose FL101 for 1-5/8″ or 1-7/8″ industrial frames.
- Replacing drop rods? Fence-Loc removes the need for a ground pin; if your site requires one, see our Double Drive Drop Rod Kit.
- Hinge pairing: For smooth latching, use properly sized hinges; many installers pair these with 5/8″ J-Bolt Hinges on drive gates.
Frequently Asked Questions

- Which model should I choose?
- Use FL300 for 1-3/8″ residential frames; choose FL101 for 1-5/8″ or 1-7/8″ industrial frames.
Comparison
- Fence-Loc™ FL101 / FL300 (this listing): Interlocking, padlock-ready latches for double chain link gates; adjustable 2″–6″; no drop rod.
- Traditional Drop Rod: Simple and familiar but requires drilling/ground clearance and doesn’t shield a padlock.
- Fork-Style Latches: Common on single walk gates; not designed to align and secure two drive-gate leaves together.

FENCE-LOC CARGO PROTECTOR GATE LATCH
Well, I had mixed opinions about this product. I am an old radar, electro-mechanical engineer, carpenter and information security officer, and typically look for functionality and esthetics. Yes, it is a solid piece of hardware; however, I wasn't too fond of there only being one bolt per section. While the way it is designed will prevent or deter most culprits, the one bolt forces the latch to bind in one spot instead of spreading the torch evenly. I also noticed a couple of places where there was a partial weld. Not fond of that either. In doing allot of soldering over the years always took pride in making sure that my connections had good solder joints. This hardware, even with these short-comings, will do okay for the application that I am using it for a residence.
