Product Description
Pressed-Steel Combo Rail End for Chain Link — Galvanized, With Truss-Rod Hole (Multiple Sizes)
- Brace & Truss Ready — Built-in truss-rod hole ties your diagonal rod into the brace rail for a stiff, plumb terminal
- Rugged Pressed Steel — Galvanized construction stands up to jobsite abuse on residential, commercial, and industrial runs
- Clean Rail Termination — Cup-and-ear design captures the rail and bolts to the terminal/corner/gate post
- Standard Post Hardware — Installs with a brace band + 5/16″ × 1-1/4″ carriage bolt (sold separately)
- Purpose-Built — Combo style is offered in pressed steel only (aluminum is not recommended for brace & truss loads)
Use a combo rail end anywhere your chain link fence needs a brace-and-truss—at terminals, corners, or gate posts. The cup holds the round rail while the ear bolts to a brace band on the post. A dedicated hole lets you route and bend the truss rod into the fitting and down the brace rail, transferring stretch loads from the terminal into the first line post and helping the post stay plumb after tensioning.
Why Choose This
- Stability you can see — Keeps terminals from racking during/after fabric stretch
- Field-proven parts — Uses the same brace bands and carriage bolts you already stock
- Weather-ready — Hot-dip galvanized finish resists corrosion
- Right material for the job — Pressed steel delivers the strength brace systems demand

Installation
Slide the round rail fully into the combo rail end cup. Place a brace band around the terminal/corner/gate post at rail height with the band’s square hole aligned to the ear. Insert a 5/16″ × 1-1/4″ carriage bolt through the band and ear, add the nut, and tighten until snug while keeping the rail level. Route and bend the truss rod into the combo rail end’s hole and down the brace rail; tension the rod per standard brace-and-truss practice to lock the terminal plumb.
Buying Guide
- Match the rail: Choose 1-5/8″ for 1-5/8″ O.D. rails or 2″ for 1-7/8″ O.D. rails.
- Using a truss system? This is the correct “combo” style; for non-trussed sections use a no-hole pressed-steel rail end.
- Bands & bolts: Brace bands are sized to the post O.D. (e.g., 2-3/8″, 2-7/8″, 4″). Stock 5/16″ × 1-1/4″ carriage bolts for the ear connection.
- Material choice: Combo ends are pressed steel only because truss loads require steel strength; use heavy aluminum rail ends only where no truss is used.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What’s the difference between a combo and a standard rail end?
- A combo rail end has a truss-rod hole for brace systems; a standard rail end does not.
- What hardware do I need?
- A brace band sized to your post and a 5/16″ × 1-1/4″ carriage bolt & nut to connect the ear. Order truss rod/bracing separately.
- Will galvanized steel rust?
- Galvanizing provides corrosion resistance; if deeply scratched to bare steel, touch up to prevent rust over time.
- Can I use aluminum instead?
- Not for brace-and-truss. Aluminum versions aren’t recommended for the loads generated by a truss system.
- How many do I need?
- One per terminated brace rail at each terminal/corner/gate post where a truss is used.
Comparison
Option | Strengths | Considerations | Best For |
---|---|---|---|
Pressed-Steel Combo Rail End (this item) | Truss-rod hole; stiffens terminals | Steel only; requires brace hardware | Brace-and-truss sections at terminals/corners/gates |
Pressed-Steel Rail End (No-Hole) | Economical; simple termination | No truss support | Standard runs without bracing |
Heavy Aluminum Rail End | Rust-proof; clean look | Not for truss loads | Coastal/high-corrosion areas, non-trussed |
Line Rail (Boulevard) Clamp | Lets rails pass through line posts | Not a termination or truss fitting | Mid/bottom rails continuing past posts |
