Product Description
MagnaLatch® Series 3 Top Pull Gate Latch — Pool-Safe, Child-Resistant
- Pool-safety oriented — Top-pull design helps keep the release out of a child’s reach when installed at the correct height.
- Magnetic self-latching — Reliable latching action that won’t jam or bind when gates move or sag over time.
- Key-lockable security — Lockable for controlled access around pools, yards, and play areas.
- Weather-tough build — Durable polymer housings with stainless-steel components to resist rust and corrosion.
- Adjustable & serviceable — Vertical/horizontal adjustability for fine-tuning; low-maintenance operation.
The MagnaLatch® Series 3 Top Pull is a professional grade, magnetic, self-latching gate latch engineered for pool-safety applications and other areas where child-resistant access is essential. The top-pull release promotes safer operation by positioning the actuator high on the post, and the key-lockable body adds an extra layer of security. Pair it with D&D TruClose® self-closing hinges and (optionally) a gate closer to help ensure gates shut and latch consistently.
Important: Always verify your local codes and install to manufacturer guidelines (including minimum release height and latch location). Pool-safety hardware is only one part of a compliant pool barrier and is not a substitute for adult supervision.
Why Choose This Latch
- Designed for pool barriers — Top-pull, magnetic self-latching is the category standard for child-resistant pool gates.
- Consistent closure — Magnetic latching is tolerant of minor gate movement and temperature changes.
- Low maintenance — Non-rusting exterior with stainless internal parts for long service life outdoors.
- Fits common gate materials — Use on metal, vinyl, or wood pedestrian gates when properly mounted.
- Clean, discreet look — Slim profile that complements residential and facility pool enclosures.

Installation
Mount the latch body high on the fence post, align the striker on the gate, then use the built-in vertical/horizontal adjustments to achieve smooth, reliable latching. For pool gates, confirm the release height and latch location meet your local code before drilling. Complete the setup with TruClose® self-closing hinges and, if desired, a gate closer to help ensure consistent closure.
Buying Guide
- Check code first — Verify pool-barrier rules in your area (latch height, latch side, gate swing direction, and self-closing requirements).
- Choose self-closing hardware — This latch must be paired with self-closing hinges and/or a closer for pool applications.
- Confirm mounting surfaces — Ensure you have suitable bracketry for your post/gate materials (metal, vinyl, or wood).
- Plan key control — Decide who needs keys for day-to-day access and maintenance.
- Maintenance — Periodically check alignment and function; re-adjust as needed for seasonal movement.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this latch compliant for pool gates?
- It’s engineered for pool-safety use. Compliance depends on correct installation and your local code. Verify release height, gate swing, and self-closing requirements with your inspector.
- Does it lock?
- Yes. It’s key-lockable for controlled access to pools or restricted areas.
- Do I need self-closing hinges?
- Yes for pool applications. Use self-closing hinges (and optionally a closer) so the gate shuts and latches automatically.
- Will it work on my type of gate?
- It mounts to a post with the striker on the gate and is commonly used on metal, vinyl, or wood gates with appropriate mounting hardware.
- How weather-resistant is it?
- The housings are polymer and the internals are stainless-steel for corrosion resistance in outdoor environments.
- Can I adjust it after installation?
- Yes. The latch provides vertical and horizontal adjustability to fine-tune alignment over time.
Comparison
- MagnaLatch® Top Pull (this model) — Pool-safety focused, child-resistant design with high release position.
- MagnaLatch® Side Pull — Compact magnetic latch for general use where a lower profile is desired (not typically used for pool-barrier top-pull requirements).
- Standard gravity latches — Basic operation and lower cost, but typically not suitable for pool-barrier requirements.

This latch works!
I bought this latch from Signet so that our toddler couldn't reach it. It works just as described. I can reach it just fine, but he can't.
