The Ironwood Post to Beam Coupler is designed to connect two beams to a post in-line, at the seam. These are used for non-terminal posts. The unique ledge of the coupler enables you to set your beams and hold them in place while you complete your measurements, and then attach them without needing another set of hands.
These Post to Beam Couplers fit any standard 2" beam, from 1.45" actual to 2" actual size. The 2-piece design makes them adjustable, and the top plate slides onto the bottom plate to until it hits the wood, ensuring a snug connection.
The Ironwood style lends a rugged, industrial charm to your project. Instead of spending hours, and extra money, trying to hide your connection hardware, OWT-Hardware is designed to become an integral part of your project's asthetic, adding to its overall look.
Each OWT Ironwood Post to Beam Coupler includes:
- 2 - Ironwood Post Ledge Bases
- 2 - Ironwood Top Cover Plates
- 4 - Hex Cap Nuts
- 4 - 2-3/4" OWT Timber Screws
The Ironwood Post to Beam Coupler DOES NOT include OWT Timber Bolts, which are required for installation. Choose the size of Timber Bolt that best meets your needs. 8 Timber Bolts are required, and can be purchased separately.
Why Choose This
- Cleaner seams — Purpose-made hardware that aligns and clamps beam ends at a post
- Faster installs — The ledge supports the members so one person can work more safely

Buying Guide
- Don’t forget bolts: Add OWT Timber Bolts for the top holes, and finish exposed faces with OWT Hex Cap Nuts.
- Pair for mixed joints: For non-seam post/beam joints on the same project, see Ironwood Post-to-Beam Bolt (Inline) or the Bolt (Offset).
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this the right part for joining two beams end-to-end at a post?
- Yes. The coupler is specifically intended for inline “seam” connections at non-terminal posts.
- Do I have to use Timber Bolts?
- Yes for the top holes. Timber Bolts provide the required clamping; screws are not recommended in the top holes.
- Will it match my other Ironwood hardware?
- Yes. The geometry and black powder coat coordinate with the Ironwood OWT line.
- Can I use this at the very end of a beam run?
- It’s designed for seam splices at intermediate posts. For end/terminal joints, use a standard Post-to-Beam connector.
Comparison
- Ironwood 8″ Coupler (this item): Designed for seam splices over a post; requires Timber Bolts in top holes.
- Ironwood Post-to-Beam Bolt — Inline/Offset: Standard post/beam joints (not a seam); also through-bolted for higher clamping.
- Ironwood Post-to-Beam Flush: Alternate connector style for non-seam joints when a low-profile plate is preferred.
