Product Description
Aluminum Dome Chain Link Post Caps — Decorative Caps for Terminals, Corners, Gates & Line Posts (No Top Rail)
- Clean, Finished Look — Smooth dome profile dresses the top of terminal, corner, gate and line posts where no top rail is used
- Rust-Proof Aluminum — Won’t rust like steel; ideal for residential and coastal installs
- Press-Fit Design — Slips over the post and seats securely; no extra hardware required
- Post Protection — Helps keep water and debris out to reduce internal corrosion
- Full Size Range — Options from 1-3/8″ up to 6-5/8″ O.D.
Finish chain link posts with rust-proof aluminum dome caps. The low-profile dome gives a neat, professional appearance and helps seal the post top against moisture and debris. Installation is simple—press the cap onto the post and tap with a rubber mallet to seat. For line posts with top rail, use loop caps (eye-tops) instead.
Why Choose This
- Corrosion resistant — Solid aluminum for long outdoor service life
- Fast install — No bands or screws; press-fit saves time on every post
- Lightweight — Easier handling than pressed-steel caps
- Flexible usage — Use on terminals/corners/gates and on line posts where no top rail is used

Installation
Confirm post O.D. and select the matching cap. Ensure the post top is round and free of burrs. Place the cap over the post and press down; tap with a rubber mallet until fully seated. If the fit is loose due to post wear or slight ovaling, lightly crimp the post top or use a thin bead of exterior-grade sealant to improve grip.
Buying Guide
- Select by post O.D.: Choose the cap size that matches the actual outside diameter of your post.
- Line-post usage: Fine for line posts when you’re not running top rail (e.g., tension-wire-only fences). If you’ll run top rail, use loop caps.
- Dome vs. acorn: Both perform similarly—pick the profile that matches your aesthetic or existing caps.
- Barbed wire sections: Replace dome caps with barb arms where barbed wire is required.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use these on line posts?
- Yes—use dome caps on line posts when you are not running top rail. For top rail, choose loop caps (eye-tops).
- Do I need hardware to install them?
- No. They are press-fit. A rubber mallet helps seat the cap securely.
- Will these rust?
- No. They’re aluminum, which is naturally corrosion resistant.
- Are dome and acorn caps functionally different?
- Function is similar; the choice is primarily aesthetic.
- Will the color match my fence?
- The cap is aluminum/silver. It coordinates with galvanized systems and can be painted to blend with color systems if desired.
Comparison
Option | Strengths | Considerations | Best For |
---|---|---|---|
Aluminum Dome Cap (this item) | Rust-proof; low-profile look; press-fit | Aluminum/silver color unless painted | Residential/coastal terminals, corners, gates, and line posts without top rail |
Aluminum Acorn Cap | Decorative acorn profile; rust-proof | Aesthetic preference vs. dome | Matching existing acorn styling |
Pressed-Steel Dome Cap | Heavier gauge; rugged for high-traffic sites | Can corrode if coating is damaged | Commercial/industrial terminals |
Loop Cap (Eye-Top) | Carries top rail/wire through line posts | Not decorative; not for terminals | Line posts with top rail |
Barb Arm (Terminal) | Supports barbed wire; security applications | Not decorative; specific to security lines | Fences requiring barbed wire |

Great Caps
Far superior to the ones found at the "big box" store if you can even find this size. They are nice and heavy, not made as thin and light as possible, and should last just this side of forever. You can't go wrong with these.
