Our .065 Wall Poly Color Coated Chain Link Fence Pipe is our economical, residential-grade colored pipe that is perfect for use on most residential chain link fencing products. This pipe has a wall thickness of .065 inches regardless of diameter, making it lightweight and strong. It is typically used for the "bones" of the fence, which included the posts, top rail, and gate frames. It can also be used for numerous other backyard projects that require light metal tubing, The polyester powder coat on the galvanized steel posts not only adds color, but also protects the posts from rust, ensuring low maintenance performance for years.
.065 wall pipe is available in black, brown, or green in many different diameters and lengths. Matching touch up paint is also sold in spray cans to repair small nicks and scratches in the pipe and prevent rust.
Most home or garden chain link fence installations up to 6' tall use 1-3/8" top and brace rails, 1-5/8" or 2" line posts, and 2-1/2" terminal posts. 6' and taller fences typically use 2" line posts and 2-1/2" terminal posts. If you are planning to use privacy inserts on your chain link fence, consider moving up to a heavier wall pipe, like SF20, to account for increased wind load.
For a cohesive look, pair with matching color-coated chain link fabric and, when needed, galvanized rail sleeves.
Typical Sizing & Use
- Top/brace rail: often 1-3/8" OD on most residential runs.

Installation Notes
Lay out post centers and set terminals first. Install line posts, then assemble top/brace rails—use swedged joints for continuous runs or sleeves on non-swedged rail. Square and plumb the framework, then stretch fabric to tension bars and secure with bands. Re-check post plumb and rail alignment before tying off.
Buying Guide
- Pick your look — Coordinate the framework color with fabric, fittings, and gates for a unified appearance.
- Match diameters to loads — Use larger ODs at terminals/gates for stretch and hardware loads; 1-3/8" OD is typical for top rail.
- Swedged vs. sleeves — Swedged top rail speeds assembly; sleeves are ideal for repairs or non-swedged rail.
Pipe longer than 10' 6" can’t ship via standard LTL and needs a custom freight quote. For a fast quote, email info@signetfence.com.
For small orders (amount varies by ship-to location, but typically under ~100 pcs), brokered flatbed rates can be high. If you’re building continuous top rail, consider ordering 10' 6" lengths and using galvanized rail sleeves to join them.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What’s inside the color poly-coated tubing?
- A galvanized steel core for strength, finished with a color poly topcoat for appearance and added weatherability.
- Is .065" the same as 16 ga?
- Yes—.065" wall corresponds to 16 ga and is the most common residential framework thickness.
- Can I weld the framework for gate frames?
- Yes—many residential gate frames are welded or fitted. Match OD to your hinges/latch and protect the coating at welds per best practices.
- Do I need sleeves if I order swedged top rail?
- No—swedged top rail joins end-to-end without sleeves. If you choose non-swedged rail or are making repairs, use rail sleeves.
Comparison
- .065" Galvanized (silver) — Same residential wall without the color topcoat; classic galvanized appearance.
- .065" Color Poly-Coated (this product) — Galvanized core with color finish to match fabric and fittings.
- SF-20 / SF-40 — Heavier commercial frameworks for taller runs, wind exposure, or higher loads.
