Product Description
SF-20 Commercial Grade Galvanized Chain Link Posts & Framework — Heavier Wall for Added Strength
- Heavier commercial wall — A step up from .065" residential tubing for increased rigidity and durability.
- Hot-dip galvanized — Zinc coating helps protect against rust and outdoor wear in demanding environments.
- Swedged top-rail option — Tapered ends let one rail fit into the next for continuous runs (no sleeve needed).
- Built for tougher jobs — Great for taller fences, windier sites, or where privacy slats/accessories add load.
- Standard-fit hardware — Compatible with common chain link fabric and fittings for straightforward installs.
Looking for a general purpose fence pipe that is light enough for easy residential installation, but rugged enough to work for most commercial projects as well? If so, then SF20 is a great fit. This pipe is thicker walled and stronger than our .065 pipe, which means that it is great for projects with heavier gauge fabric (like 9 gauge) and projects that use tension wire. The thicker walled tubing is also great for commercial and industrial gate frames. Your whole fence framework can be constructed from SF20, including posts, top rail, and any brace rails.
Pair your SF20 framework with compatible chain link fabric and galvanized rail sleeves (if you’re not using swedged top rail).
Ideal Fence Projects for SF20 Pipe:
- Most Commercial Chain Link Fences
- Heavy-Duty Residential Fences
- Commercial / Industrial Gate Frames
- Parks & Playgrounds
- Fences w/ Privacy Screen or Slats
Non-Fence Related Projects for SF20 Pipe:
- Temporary Structures
- Framing for Greenhouses
- Furniture
- Handrailing
- Carports
- Party Tents
- Signs (pair with OZCO Post Anchors)
Typical Sizing & Use
- Top/brace rail: commonly 1-3/8" or 1-5/8" OD on commercial runs.
- Line posts: often 1-7/8" (2" nominal) or 2-3/8" (2-1/2" nominal) actual OD.
- Terminal posts (corners/ends/gates): frequently 2-7/8" (3" nominal) where higher loads are expected.

Installation Notes
Set terminals, then line posts at layout spacing. Use swedged top-rail lengths to create continuous rails, or join non-swedged rail with sleeves. Square, plumb, and brace before stretching fabric to tension bars; secure with the correct bands, rail ends, and caps for your ODs.
Buying Guide
- When to choose SF-20 — Taller fences, wind exposure, privacy slats, or higher traffic loading than .065" can comfortably handle.
- Pick diameters by load — Larger ODs at terminals/gates manage stretch and hardware loads; lighter ODs suit top rail.
- Swedged vs. sleeves — Swedged top rail speeds install and reduces parts; sleeves are great for repairs or non-swedged rail.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How does SF-20 compare to .065" residential?
- SF-20 uses a heavier wall for added stiffness and durability. It’s a common upgrade for taller fences, windy sites, or when adding slats/signage.
- Is swedged top rail available?
- Yes—select swedged lengths for continuous runs without sleeves. Non-swedged rail can be joined with sleeves.
- Can I weld SF-20 for gate frames?
- Yes—SF-20 tubing is commonly used for welded and fitted residential/commercial gate frames. Match OD to your hinge/latch hardware.
Comparison
- .065" Residential Framework — Lighter 16-ga tubing for standard home fences.
- SF-20 (this product) — Heavier wall for added rigidity; a solid choice for taller runs, wind exposure, or slatted fabric.
- SF-40 — Premium commercial/industrial framework with thicker walls for the highest loads and traffic.

Best poles on the market
I could not find heavier gauge pipe local and by some twist of luck I landed on the signet site. Great experience, I even emailed after the order and added more and they made that process easy too. A++
